Eli wanted to broaden her mind and live new experiences. She wanted to move to a place which had nice weather all year long, and she was looking for an english-spoken country because she wanted to improve her english skills. And well, Australia seemed like the perfect choice. So she packed her things, took a plane and flew to the other side of the globe. Literally.
And well, some time later she met Will and… it was love at first sight!
They decided to celebrate their wedding two times: one in Zaragoza (Spain) and, a month and a half later, another one in Brisbane (Australia). Two is always better than one 🙂
We were moved by their ceremony, which was quite different from the ones we are used to in Spain. There was no officiant (they conducted the ceremony themselves) and they decided to show their commitment with a handfasting ritual. Hand-fasting is a symbolic unity ritual which comes from ancient Celtic tradition. It was originally used to symbolise a betrothal, during which a druid priest would declare that the couple would be bound together. The couple stand face to face as their hands are tied together with several ribbons (hence the phrase, tying the knot!). We loved how their families were involved, tying the ribbons and saying some beautiful words as their hands were bound. Finally Will and Eli recited their vows to express their commitment to one another. It was the first time we saw a handfasting ceremony and to be honest, it was really special for us!

Elisa quería ampliar horizontes y vivir nuevas experiencias. Buscaba un país donde poder mejorar su nivel de inglés y -requisito imprescindible- tenía que ser en un lugar donde hiciera buen tiempo todo el año. ¡Australia parecía el sitio perfecto! Así que hizo las maletas, cogió un avión y se cruzó medio mundo (¡literalmente!).
Poco tiempo después conoció a Will y como ellos mismos dicen… ¡fue amor a primera vista!
Decidieron celebrar su boda dos veces: la primera, en España y la segunda, un mes y medio después, en Australia. Dos bodas son siempre mejor que una 🙂
Y la verdad es que nos encantó su ceremonia, porque fue completamente distinta a las que estamos acostumbrados a ver en España. No hubo sacerdote ni oficiante, fueron ellos mismos los que condujeron la ceremonia. Y además, decidieron mostrar su compromiso con el rito del hand-fasting. Este tipo de ceremonias vienen de una tradición celta, en la que un sacerdote druida declaraba la unión de las parejas y simbolizaba su compromiso atándoles las manos con cintas. En este caso, fueron los familiares de Will y Eli los que, después de decirles unas bonitas palabras, fueron anudando sus manos con varias cintas. Y para rematar, antes del beso final, los novios se dedicaron unos votos preciosos… Era la primera vez que veíamos una ceremonia de este tipo y la verdad es que nos encantó.
Y también nos encantó lo guapísima que iba Eli, con el vestido de Emmy Mae Bridal y maquillada y peinada por Isabel II!!
